An Invitation to Rest

Every now and then go away,
have a little relaxation,
for when you come back to your work
your judgment will be surer.

—Leonardo Da Vinci

Restorative Yoga - An Invitation to Rest. with Carolyn Butcher
Saturday 9/18/2010   From 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join yoga teacher and coach Carolyn Butcher for this special afternoon and invitation for you to receive the benefits of “intentional rest.”  Carolyn received this Anjali Restorative Yoga sequence through teacher, creator and om time’s founder, Shannon Paige Schneider.  Anjali Restorative Yoga is a deeply restful practice where the practitioner is guided through meditations and thoughtful visualizations while the body is held and supported by bolsters, pillows, and blankets. • 1, yoga mat (option to rent)
• 3, blankets (cotton, wool or blend for easy folding)
• journal and a pen

This workshop will be held at The Yoga Fusion Studio - 4609 Willow Lane, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.  Beginners/All levels welcome!

A Mother’s Love

A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.  —Agatha Christie

REFLECTION: I held the privilege of teaching a most amazing group of yogis tonight at The Yoga Fusion Studio in Chevy Chase, MD.  It’s such an incredible, nurturing space.  I am reminded again and again of the strength building, peace cultivating, and karmic (or pattern) burning process the experience that some practices can be. This group worked with focus and the perfect balance of effort and ease.  They transformed not only their individual energy but also the energy of the collective space.  I too was transformed in their presence.  And in the silence… after their “hard” work was done, this simple message came to me:

Day-to-day… Do you dwell in a vibration of fear or love?  Choose love.

Do you create stress or cultivate relaxation?  Choose relaxation.

Such a simple teaching.  Such an obvious choice.  The warmth and the grace of this space reminds me of none other than… a (my) Mother’s Love.

Citizen Effect 30-Day Challenge begins July 1st!

The DC yoga community is coming together over one incredible cause, building a foster home for children in South Africa. The goal of this movement is to raise $25,000 to match the funds already contributed by The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. The total money raised will support a local NGO in South Africa dedicated to caring for orphans, abandoned and vulnerable children.

How It Works:
1. JOIN
Donate $30 to Citizen Effect and challenge yourself to 30 days of yoga! You will receive a pass to track your practice that can be used at participating studios in the DC area. Sign up by visiting: https://citizeneffect.org/yogachallenge

2. COMMIT
Pledge your fundraising goal!
Sign up at: http://citizeneffect.org/cp_applications/new and complete “I pledge to raise $___ during my 30-Day Yoga Challenge” in the comments box.

3. CONNECT
Ask your friends and family to sponsor your challenge using your Citizen Effect project page! Citizen Effect will provide you with your own fundraising page with information about your project so sponsors can donate online and track your progress.

4. IMPACT
Change the lives of orphaned and abandoned children in South Africa! 100% of funds raised, less credit card fees, will be used to build a foster home in South Africa. To learn more about the children and this project, visit: http://www.citizeneffect.org/projects/yogachallenge
