Further Afield

Greetings from Deutschland!

Arrived here in Vilseck, Germany without a travel hitch.  The drive from Munich airport was characteristically German country hillside, small villages, snow-covered wheat fields, walking paths and tall forest trees beautiful!

And the air… ahhh… so clean and breathe-it-in fresh!

The gasthaus I’m staying is the oldest in Vilseck, originated in 1666 and is family run.  This charming town dates back to the middle ages.  Some local sights to see include the local bell tower, Dagestein Castle, and St. Agodius city church.

Saturday into Sunday, besides catching up on sleep from the overnight flight, I started the day at 4:30 am and patiently waited and waited and waited for the town bakery to open.

Guten Morgen!  Started the day off with coffee, baked good-ness, cheese, and chocolate!  After a walk about town, I planned to spend the day at my new, favorite local (only) cafe.  Just like home!  That is, until it closed… at 11am.

I haven’t experienced a quiet Sunday like this since early childhood.  So sweet.  So simple.  Everything I need is right here in this small town… and open on Monday.  Oh well, think I’ll enjoy a tranquil day of reading, writing, listening to some music, and lightly preparing for the work week… all possible distractions eliminated.

Auf Wiedersehen!
Carolyn
