Your Vision. Your 2011. Your Way.

Now let us
welcome the new year,
full of things
that have never been…

—Rilke

Celebrate the New Year
with us Sunday, January 2nd
from 1-3:00pm at Flow Yoga Center.

What’s your personal vision for 2011 & beyond?  A vision often starts with a single thought, image or dream.  Take some time early in the new year to reflect on what you want to experience in your business, career and life.  Create your dream list and craft your vision with the help of a visual aid.  You choose the focus for your Vision Board based on what matters most and is emerging for you.

Vision Boards are a creative and powerful tool used to gain insights and access to possible next steps along your path in a visual form.

Carolyn Butcher, our session facilitator, will share some techniques for creating a vision board and provide all of the supplies. In turn, we ask that you come with an intention, goal or idea you would like to bring to life. Be open to all of the possibilities. Play and have fun!

This session will be held at Flow Yoga Center - 1450 P St NW, Washington, DC 20005.

Cost: $35 per class.

Sales Storytelling & Business Process Immersion

Executive Coach Carolyn Butcher and PR Expert Sarah Massey teamed up again in May to offer a two-session workshop for organizational leaders and business owners.

The teaching team offered a creative learning environment for writing your sales leadership story.  Each workshop was held at the Affinity Lab, an entrepreneurial dream and action space on 920 U Street, NW in Washington, DC.

Workshop participants learned the fundamentals of crafting a business story of value, relevance, differentiation, and as a strategic resource.

In these master classes, participants learned the elements of sales storytelling and sharpened their ability to tell their business story to clients.  The workshop leaders offered methods for engaging clients from the first interaction to final business results.  Participants received tips, tools and time to identify strategies and steps to increase efficiency in business operations and practice telling their story in ways that delight and enhance the overall client experience.

Tell Your Story

Carolyn teamed up with Sarah Massey of Massey Media last spring to offer a three-session workshop for organizational leaders and business owners.

The teaching team offered a creative learning environment, bringing a combined experience of over 30 years in sales, marketing, and public relations for corporations and non-profits.  Each workshop was held at the at the Affinity Lab, an entrepreneurial dream and action space on 920 U Street, NW in Washington, DC.

Workshop participants learned the fundamentals of storytelling for three distinct audiences: your team, your clients, and the press.

The workshop leaders shared this storytelling truth… How your audiences understand you can make the difference between winning a campaign, raising needed funds, and motivating your team to action. People want to be told stories, which means you have to craft your language and information in a way that is easy to hear.  Participants walked away with increased confidence in telling their leadership story to audiences with heart and authentic voice.

The Hero’s Journey

The privilege of a lifetime is being
who you are

The goal of the hero trip down
to the jewel point is to find those
levels in the psyche that open,
open, open, and finally open to
the mystery of your Self

That’s the journey.

—Joseph Campbell

Throughout the rhythm of our lives we receive calls. Calls to move forward, calls to grow, calls to take responsibility, calls to develop our gifts, calls to love self and others.

When you receive a call, do you answer?

Below is a map of “The Hero’s Journey” – based on poet, philospher, and teacher Lorin Roche’s interpretation of Joseph Campbell’s work, “The Hero With A Thousand Faces” (notes from October 18, 2009 teaching).

The journey begins with The Call.  It can be outwardly or inwardly directed.  For example, you receive a job offer (the call) to move to another city and lead your own business unit or there is an inner urging to get involved with a local non-profit in a more committed way or you notice a growing curiosity to learn something new (e.g., how to sail or how to be still as opposed to being busy).

The Answer - There is only one way to answer: Yes or No.  As you think through times in the past when you received a call, what fueled your forward movement and your answer yes?  What calls did you answer no to and why?

**Arriving at Yes!  When we commit to the call and answer yes, there is a tremendous amount of excitement, forward movement, and relief in responding positively.  What are you saying Yes! to right now? How can the excitement and energy of a new beginning sustain you as you break with the old and venture into the new and unknown?

Obstacles - Inevitably there will be obstacles that present once you embark on a new journey.  For example, in answering the “Job-offer-in-another-city Call,” it requires finding a new place to live, relocating, saying goodbye to a life and friends in the present place, meeting and establishing relationships with new co-workers, etc.  However, at this point in the journey there is enough energy, excitement, and commitment to the call to move you ahead and sustain you.  You address each situation that comes up and continue to move forward in the quest.

The Road of Trials - As new skills, abilities, and experiences are gained, there is often a series of trials that test your commitment to the call.  This is the time when it is most important to stay connected to the vision, the call, the reason why you embarked on this path.  From this centered and grounded place, a deeper understanding and learning occurs.  This state of being often leads to a…

Breakthrough – This is the experience of oneness, peace, restored confidence, and self- renewal that comes from staying connected to the vision, going through a series of trials and experiences that strengthen or develop your new skills and abilities (your gifts).  At this point in the journey, the hero-ine takes time to reflect back on how far he or she has come.

The Road Back – The hero-ine now begins the journey home to share the gifts, abilities, and perspective gained from the experience of responding to the call and being on the journey.  This is a time of celebration, community, and communion.  Even on the road back there are times when the hero-ine experiences obstacles and trials that strengthen the magic of the gifts. This is a time for the hero-ine to seek the support of allies who can spread the learning, share the gifts, and ensure a safe return home.

The Arrival Home – The hero-ine enjoys being fully integrated in the learning from the experiences of the journey, and celebrated for his or her courage in hearing and saying Yes! to the call.

Think about times in your life when you received a call.  Use this map to reflect back on your “Hero’s Journey.”  I wonder…

Are you being called to something right now?
