Intention

You are what your deepest desire is.
As your desire is, so is your intention.
As your intention is, so is your will.
As your will is, so is your deed.
As your deed is, so is your destiny.

Inner Fire

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Transform. Identify and Heal Patterns. Discover Your Essential Self.

Join executive coach Carolyn Butcher and Dr. Marie Rodriguez for this series of workshops devoted to getting you grounded, opening your heart, clarifying your vision, and living according to your life’s path.

Each session includes practical tools and clues to look within, identify what limits you, re-direct your energy and attention, and apply balancing strategies for living from your heart’s desires and unique purpose.

Get Grounded. with Carolyn Butcher and Dr. Marie Rodriguez
Sun 10/3/2010   From 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

In our fast paced world, we often live from the ‘shoulders up’ - not feeling fully connected with our daily experience. Anxiety, memory, sleep issues are common complaints from this way of being, while a desire to be more grounded, fully present and connected to day-to-day experience are common wishes. In this session, you will learn to identify your ideal routine and flow, create balance in the body, ground and balance yourself to effectively manage stress and overcome ego challenges and self-sabotaging behaviors. Visualization, meditation, discussion and gentle movement exercises will be offered to support you in this practice of grounding and discovery.

Open Your Heart. with Carolyn Butcher and Dr. Marie Rodriguez
Sun 10/31/2010   From 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

A lifetime of sensitivity to life’s challenges, disappointments, and stress can teach us to shield our hearts for protection. We end up limiting ourselves from fully experiencing the richness that life has to offer and the beauty within. Create the space needed to turn away from the busy-ness, tune into your heart, and learn how self-love is the foundation for receiving balance, peace, and success on all levels. In this session, you will learn energetic and meditative exercises to transform limiting beliefs and inherited familial patterns as well as use inquiry, reflection, and movement exercises to open and re-connect to your heart.

The Sky’s the Limit. with Carolyn Butcher and Dr. Marie Rodriguez
Sun 11/7/2010   From 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Once you are fully committed and walking your life’s journey with an open heart, it is time to create possibilities and bring your brightest vision into being. In this session, you will learn to fully let go of self-limiting beliefs and step into and surrender to pure potential. Through the technique of visioning and tapping into the power of your subconscious, you will learn to draw on your creative potential and the support that is always available to you. You will learn to work with tools such as dream boarding and shamanic journeying for embodying and manifesting your dreams and gaining access to your highest self.

All sessions will be held at lil omm yoga - 4830 V Street, NW, Washington, DC 20007
Cost: $45 per class or $120 for all three

Two Wings to Fly

(Life) turns you from one feeling to another and teaches by means of opposites, so that you will have two wings to fly, not one.

The Hero’s Journey

The privilege of a lifetime is being
who you are

The goal of the hero trip down
to the jewel point is to find those
levels in the psyche that open,
open, open, and finally open to
the mystery of your Self

That’s the journey.

—Joseph Campbell

Throughout the rhythm of our lives we receive calls. Calls to move forward, calls to grow, calls to take responsibility, calls to develop our gifts, calls to love self and others.

When you receive a call, do you answer?

Below is a map of “The Hero’s Journey” – based on poet, philospher, and teacher Lorin Roche’s interpretation of Joseph Campbell’s work, “The Hero With A Thousand Faces” (notes from October 18, 2009 teaching).

The journey begins with The Call.  It can be outwardly or inwardly directed.  For example, you receive a job offer (the call) to move to another city and lead your own business unit or there is an inner urging to get involved with a local non-profit in a more committed way or you notice a growing curiosity to learn something new (e.g., how to sail or how to be still as opposed to being busy).

The Answer - There is only one way to answer: Yes or No.  As you think through times in the past when you received a call, what fueled your forward movement and your answer yes?  What calls did you answer no to and why?

**Arriving at Yes!  When we commit to the call and answer yes, there is a tremendous amount of excitement, forward movement, and relief in responding positively.  What are you saying Yes! to right now? How can the excitement and energy of a new beginning sustain you as you break with the old and venture into the new and unknown?

Obstacles - Inevitably there will be obstacles that present once you embark on a new journey.  For example, in answering the “Job-offer-in-another-city Call,” it requires finding a new place to live, relocating, saying goodbye to a life and friends in the present place, meeting and establishing relationships with new co-workers, etc.  However, at this point in the journey there is enough energy, excitement, and commitment to the call to move you ahead and sustain you.  You address each situation that comes up and continue to move forward in the quest.

The Road of Trials - As new skills, abilities, and experiences are gained, there is often a series of trials that test your commitment to the call.  This is the time when it is most important to stay connected to the vision, the call, the reason why you embarked on this path.  From this centered and grounded place, a deeper understanding and learning occurs.  This state of being often leads to a…

Breakthrough – This is the experience of oneness, peace, restored confidence, and self- renewal that comes from staying connected to the vision, going through a series of trials and experiences that strengthen or develop your new skills and abilities (your gifts).  At this point in the journey, the hero-ine takes time to reflect back on how far he or she has come.

The Road Back – The hero-ine now begins the journey home to share the gifts, abilities, and perspective gained from the experience of responding to the call and being on the journey.  This is a time of celebration, community, and communion.  Even on the road back there are times when the hero-ine experiences obstacles and trials that strengthen the magic of the gifts. This is a time for the hero-ine to seek the support of allies who can spread the learning, share the gifts, and ensure a safe return home.

The Arrival Home – The hero-ine enjoys being fully integrated in the learning from the experiences of the journey, and celebrated for his or her courage in hearing and saying Yes! to the call.

Think about times in your life when you received a call.  Use this map to reflect back on your “Hero’s Journey.”  I wonder…

Are you being called to something right now?
